Santa Catalina and the neighbouring Es Jonquet are among the best-known quarters of Palma. While Santa Catalina is known today for its lively dining scene, its popular market and its international crowd, Es Jonquet has preserved a more original character with its historic windmills and quiet lanes. Daily life and getting around
The Mercat de Santa Catalina is the heart of the quarter: fresh fish, vegetables and stalls where people eat at lunchtime. Around it sit supermarkets, pharmacies, workshops and more restaurants per street than anywhere else in Palma.
The centre is a ten-minute walk, the harbour five. The Paseo Marítimo cycle path starts down at the water. You need a car for nothing here — on the contrary, parking is the quarter's biggest problem.
Who rents here, and what to know
Santa Catalina is Palma's most sought-after address for stays of three to six months. Places go quickly and rents sit correspondingly high.
The flip side is noise: terraces line Carrer Fàbrica and Carrer Sant Magí, and in summer that runs late. If you need quiet, ask for a flat facing the courtyard or towards Es Jonquet — noticeably quieter, same location.
