Monthly rentals in Central Mallorca

Inca is the island's third city and traditionally the centre of leatherworking. Its Thursday market is the largest in Mallorca, and there is a hospital, schools and a station with a direct line to Palma.

Binissalem is the island's wine centre, with its own denomination of origin and a centre of manor houses. Quiet, well kept and still on the railway line.

Santa Maria del Camí is closest to Palma and its Sunday market is among the most popular on the island. Alaró and Bunyola already sit at the foot of the Tramuntana — country living with mountains behind you.

Sencelles, Costitx and Sineu belong here too: small villages with no tourism and a great deal of everyday life.

The train from Palma to Inca takes around 40 minutes; Santa Maria and Binissalem are on the same line and correspondingly quicker. This is the only area outside Palma with usable rail service.

By car on the Ma-13, Inca is 25 to 30 minutes from Palma. The northern beaches at Alcúdia are another 20 minutes, the east coast around 30.

A car still makes sense as soon as you want the sea regularly or live outside the village centres. Within the villages everything is walkable.

This is where least changes between November and March: the towns do not live off tourism, so nothing closes. Markets, bakeries, doctors and schools run right through.

In February the almond blossom turns the area into something special for a few weeks. It is the quietest and at the same time the most dependable corner for a winter let.

What you do not get is the sea on your doorstep or an international crowd. Central Mallorca is more Mallorcan than the rest — for many exactly the appeal, for others an adjustment.

Central Mallorca works if you want space and a sensible price level, like shopping locally and are willing to drive to the beach. For families and for longer stays with remote work it is often the best choice on the island.

It works less well if you need the sea on your doorstep or depend on an international environment.
