Santanyí lies in the south-east of Mallorca, about 45 minutes from Palma. Its centre is built of honey-coloured sandstone, the same stone used for Palma's cathedral. The Wednesday and Saturday market draws visitors from half the island; galleries, cafés and shops stay open all year. The coast at Cala Figuera, Cala Llombards and the Mondragó nature park is a few kilometres away. Santanyí is one of the few addresses in the east where a winter let makes sense, because the town does not depend on seasonal tourism.
Daily life and getting around
Santanyí has supermarkets, doctors, schools and, in the Wednesday and Saturday market, a meeting point that draws visitors from half the island. Galleries, cafés and shops stay open all year.
Palma is around 45 minutes on the Ma-19, the airport about 40. The coast at Cala Figuera, Cala Llombards or the Mondragó nature park is a ten to fifteen minute drive. Little works here without a car.
Who rents here, and winter
People who want country living with a lively town centre and the coast within reach, without living in a resort. The town is popular for longer stays with remote work.
Unlike Cala d'Or, Santanyí stays open in winter because it does not live off seasonal tourism. That makes it one of the few addresses in the east where a winter let makes sense.
