Deià lies between cliffs and the Teix mountain on the north-west coast, about 30 minutes from Sóller and 40 from Palma. The village consists of a few hundred stone houses clinging to the slope. Since Robert Graves settled here in 1929, Deià has drawn writers, musicians and painters — a character that persists today. The Cala Deià cove is reached on foot. Supply is small and price levels are high; anyone looking for a seasonal rental here should enquire early and plan on having a car.
Daily life and getting around
Deià has a small shop, two bakers and a handful of restaurants. Everything else is in Sóller, 15 minutes away, or in Valldemossa.
Palma is around 40 minutes on the winding Ma-10. The bus runs a few times a day. Without a car, Deià is not a realistic place to live.
Who rents here, and winter
Supply is the smallest of any municipality on this site and price levels the highest. If you want a seasonal rental here, allow three to four months lead time.
Winter is very quiet and some restaurants close. The houses are old and set on the slope, many reachable only by steps. Heating, damp and access belong in your enquiry.
